Current LPG cylinder prices in Kenya for 6kg, 13kg and 22.5kg sizes. Compare prices from Total Energies, Rubis, Gulf, Hashi and other suppliers.
LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) is the main cooking fuel for urban Kenyans, having largely replaced kerosene in towns and cities over the past decade. An estimated 40% of Kenyan households now use LPG for cooking, with adoption fastest in Nairobi, Mombasa and other urban centres.
Unlike fuel, LPG prices in Kenya are not regulated by EPRA. Suppliers set their own prices, which is why prices vary between brands and between towns. Shopping around โ or using Legit Index to check community-reported prices โ can save you real money.
| Size | Best for | Typical monthly use |
|---|---|---|
| 6kg | Single person or couple, small flat | 1โ1.5 cylinders |
| 13kg | Family of 4โ6 people | 1 cylinder every 3โ5 weeks |
| 22.5kg | Large families, small restaurants, caterers | 1 cylinder per month+ |
When you buy an LPG cylinder for the first time you pay both the cylinder deposit (ownership fee) and the gas fill. When you refill, you only pay for the gas. Prices on Legit Index reflect refill prices โ what you pay to fill an empty cylinder you already own.
Always buy LPG from licensed, reputable suppliers. Counterfeit and under-filled cylinders are a risk in Kenya. Check that the cylinder seal is intact before purchasing, and ensure your supplier is licensed by EPRA. Report suspected unsafe cylinders to EPRA at epra.go.ke.
